From Rivera's Groove Box #302: Soundstream - Doctor Loop

There's still good disco and funky house out there, and the Panorama Bar resident DJ Frank Timm has released the debut album of his main project Soundstream. But I think this album sounds mediocre at best. The tracks don't have the same amount of ballsy-ness that made the previous singles so stand out. But it is still a good album and must have for true house music lovers all over the world. You could pick out any of the tracks from the album and just drop it anywhere in a DJ set... I think that's why Sound Stream is still one of the best producers out there. My fav cut from the album is 'Doctor Loop' - just because how gritty it sounds. Pure lo-fi filth!

I've got a love for house music, and old obscure sci-fi B-movies. West Coast Swingaz ties these things nicely together. Loopy funky disco house, with a lo-fi flavour. Disco loop sampled from Stephanie Mills 'You Can't Run From My Love'. Video footage from 'Zontar! The Thing From Venus' - a 1966 TV movie, which itself is a remake of 'It Conquered The World', a 1956 low budget Roger Corman movie. Frank Zappa mentioned the movie in his song 'Cheepnis'. 

From Rivera's Groove Box #299: Ace & The Sandman - Let Your Body Talk

Ace & The Sandman is Eric Lewis and Merwyn Sanders from Virgo Four, pioneers of early Chicago deep house. This track is a combination of Virgo Four melody and a proper acid 303 line, giving the track a deep feeling. This track is one of the best kept secrets from the early Chicago house scene. I'm really thankful of having discovering this track.

From Rivera's Groove Box #298: DJ Q & Dominic Capello - Robots In Parliament

DJ Q is really good when it comes down to cut some grooves from disco tracks and putting them in use for some proper house workouts. This track is from his very first EP. I'm not even sure if the track title is correct, because on the vinyl record center label the right track title should be 'Track 1' and 'Robots In Parliament' should be a more tech house sounding number. But the current title of the track is according to the digital release. Well, doesn't matter, the track is bangin'!

Andrew Weatherall played this track in his 1996 Essential Mix. I've encountered plenty of people who've sworn that this is their favourite mix ever. Some cool digital jazz vibes in this track.

Club 69 was Peter Rauhofer's best known project and 'Let Me Be Your Underwear' probably his most remembered production. A smooth garage house belter of the early 90s, a true club track which has stood the test of time and actually sounds very up to date for the current underground house scene.

From Rivera's Groove Box #295: L'll Louis - I'm Hot For You

I want you to pay close attention on this one, because this is not a Lil' Louis, the Chicago house legend, production... even if the name suggests so. The name on the records says 'L'IL LOUIS' and it is not a mistake or mistype. This monicker was used to make it look like the track was the work of Lil' Louis, confusing the DJs, dancers and all house music lovers all over the world. The track samples the bassline of 1989 Italian house track 'Lee Lewis - Atmosphere' produced by two Italian guys with collaboration of the real OG Chicago Lil' Louis. It's basically a remix of 'French Kiss'. Vocals are sampled from Karen Young's 'Hot Shot' and Tony Lee's 'Reach Up'. The drumloop is from Bobby Konders 'Version'. Man! That is a proper mashup, but it is so well done. Folks all around the world still mistake this for a Lil' Louis track!

15 minutes of the same loop, but the monologue delivered by Madteo makes the track worth a deeper listen. Very clever. 

From Rivera's Groove Box #293: Rick Wade - I Feel Good

Recently Rick Wade asked on 'The worst techno memes ever' Facebook group page 'who the fu%k is this Solomun guy I keep hearing about, is he even a real techno DJ?'. And to be honest, I also never heard of Solomun before I joined that group. Thanks to the exploits of this group, I now know Solomun is the uncrowned king of throwing afterparties in villas and mansions for rich spoiled people - parties I'll probably never get into the guestlist. But do I even want to? Throwing aside his hypnotizing awesome dad dance moves, I'm not a particular fan of his rather odd track selections. He plays everything from pop house hits from the past, trance with reduced pitch tempos, the dullest progressive, minimal and techno... and sometimes throwing in a pinch of actually really great tracks. So yes, I think it's true what they say about him - he is the Beatport Top 100 chart personified. But I love Rick Wade, he is a very humble guy.
